NLE: Diane Rochford OBE
Diane Rochford OBE is the former Executive Head of JFK Special School and now splits her time between a number of projects, including working as NLE for JFKTSA.
With over 20 years experience working in the field of Special Education Needs and Disability she has worked in senior leadership roles across a variety of schools and settings as well as chairing the DfE’s Rochford Review, which proposed revisions to statutory assessment for pupils with additional learning needs working below National Curriculum level. Pre-key stage standards have since been integrated into statutory assessment and work is continuing for those operating below the pre-key stage point
In addition to continuing her work with the DfE, in the form of her participation in both its expert and steering groups looking into statutory assessment for pupils with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties, she is also regularly commissioned to work with schools and Local Authorities in helping them identify gaps and develop provision. She has supporting strategic planning, leadership and management of special schools and specialist provisions within mainstream, aiding curriculum design and approaches to challenging behaviours.
She supported the DfE in developing Teachers Standards (representing special schools) and is a qualified and active Ofsted inspector with additional accreditation to inspect SEND.
